About Tom Hogarty

Tom was born in Dublin and lives there still with his wife, Gráinne, and their two sons, Daniel and Alan. Though he was raised in Dublin, Tom and his family have also lived a good number of years away from Ireland. Tom's work as an Information System specialist meant that the family enjoyed more than 10 years living in Germany and, later, California.

Since returning to Dublin in 1999, Tom has primarily worked as a Project Manager in the Telecom, Financial Services and IT Sectors. In the last five years Tom has provided consultancy services to several large business in the city.

With a strong technical background, Tom developed a greater interest in how the Internet or World Wide Web might be used as he began studying for his B.Sc, in Information Systems at Trinity College in 1999.

The degree in Information Systems was followed with a Masters in Management of Information Systems, also at Trinity College. Both of these study courses involved much research into what value this new technology could deliver to society.

Tom's first formal Visual Art encounter goes back to his teens when he painted as a hobby and, for a brief period in the 70's, attended the National College of Art and Design on a Graphic Design course.

A less formal encounter with Visual Art occured when he first met his wife, Gráinne, who happened to be on her way to have a painting of her own framed at the time. Visual Art provided the perfect conversation starter.

Neither of them has lifted a paintbrush or knife for anything more than a light coating of vinyl on the walls or a spread of butter on toast since then though they have discovered some alternative areas of shared interest.

These threads of Visual Art, Ireland, Information Systems and Project Management are woven into the fabric of the New Irish Art web site. The vision of tailoring an easily accessible, relatively enjoyable Art viewing experience via the Internet is shared with the rest of his family and supported by many of their friends.

Now in it's tenth year, the New Irish Art web site is funded solely by the Hogarty family and has never operated as a commercial concern.
