About Frank Cullen
  1. Hello, my name is Frank Cullen and I am a Dublin-born artist now living and working in the university town of Maynooth, Co. Kildare, a short distance outside of Dublin. Since my childhood I have always loved to draw and this passion has remained throughout my life. However it was not until my early twenties that I began to experiment with paint and have enjoyed ever since the exciting effect of creating colour on my palette.
  2. After ten years in the workplace I returned to education and spent a further ten years studying history at university. Having completed a Doctorate in 2005, I have only recently returned to painting and am now enjoying working in acrylics. I love strong vivid colour and acrylics enable me, as an artist, to produce vibrant striking paintings.
  3. I am currently exploring the theme of literature and am working on a collection of unique portraits. These striking pieces are based upon old black and white images of iconic Irish writers such as Shaw, Beckett, Wilde, Yeats and others, but painted using strong vibrant acrylic colour which I feel makes a bold statement about each individual.
  4. Apart from portraits I also paint landscapes, animals and other subjects on request. I am happy to accept commissions for portraits of family members and loved ones painted from photographs.
  5. Thank you for taking the time to read this and hope you enjoy the work on show.
