About Artist Gabrielle Bowe
  1. Having spent some years exploring the theme of A Journey and Beyond I feel ready to leave the Beyond part of this series behind!
  2. Working on this theme was a fruitful time. I was painting two very different types of paintings. The Journey Paintings I was really enjoying. The Beyond paintings I needed to paint! When I would paint one of these pictures I would stand back and feel that the composition was odd maybe but would still start another one. The subject matter was always in your face and it was hard to get to the area behind the main subject. Now I realize, not having done a Beyond painting for some time, that these painting were a refection of what I was feeling at the time. I was stuck in a space. I could see where I wanted to go but was not able to get there! I was feeling sometimes blocked.
  3. As time went by I found myself painting less of these Beyond pictures and was painting more of the Journey paintings. I was on that journey myself! I realize now that it was a time when I was finding my subject matter as an artist. Now that is the interesting thing. Before I would always refrain from describing myself as an artist. I was afraid of declaring myself as such.
  4. I have worked through this series, have gone on the journey and have arrived at a place where I am happy to continue the journey but also to rest and explore.
  5. The realization of this has been brewing for some time. I read a description somewhere lately but cannot remember where. It was this 'If an expressionist painting is about feelings rather than the reality then that is what my paintings are about. They create a space, a context for people to inhabit, to experience, to question, a place to grow'. This seems very much where I am at now.
  6. I am now leaving The Journey and Beyond series behind and will continue on my Journey Series
