Biography

Joseph Behan was born in the 1950's in Co. Kildare and emigrated when aged ten to London where he attended both the Hammersmith and the Slade Art Colleges, exhibiting with the Royal Society of Painters and the Camden Centre between 1969 and 1975. Upon returning to Ireland he executed a number of oil paintings on the theme of "Scenes From Irish Life"---and in 1985 he held his first '0ne-Man Exhibition' in Berlin with this series of oil paintings. All of these were bought by a private collector, the financial adviser at that time, Michael Plackete, from the Kufursterdamm.

Once upon returning to Ireland he was partnered by the late potter, Paddy Murphy, from Enniscorthy, in creating some very fine terra-cotta sculptures, most of which are in private Irish collections.

During the year 2000 onwards he has written his own computer programmes, illustrated with graphics and annimations, and is presently engaged as an 'equestrian artist' painting the animals he dearly loves, horses, from the fields and farms around where he lives, and is busy on several commisions as an 'equestrian artist'.
