Biography

Within the last three years John has held two solo exhibitions at the Miriam Bailey Gallery, Bandon, Co. Cork. The first of these two exhibitions, titled 'The Edge Of Jack Barry's Land', proved to be hugely successful and thus raised public awareness of this artist's work to a higher platform. In November 2007, John staged a return exhibition. Aptly named 'From Tuskar To Aran And Beyond', the paintings again highlighted the depth and progression of his work. It further promoted this individual freedom of approach and energy, a freedom which gives him the ability to create a world all of its own, and yet a world which we can all recognise.

In April of this year, John held a successful exhibition titled 'Spirited Coast' at the Courtyard Gallery, Midleton, Co. Cork. This exhibition of recent oil paintings contained interpretations of a wide range of maritime subjects. Portrayals, such as the liner 'Independence of the Seas' passing Cobh, lifeboat and pilot boat activity, the death of a whale, the beachcomber, and many more paintings, conjured up a feast for the eyes in this pictorial coastal commentary.
