Biography
David McDowell was born in Northern Ireland, 1986. In 2008 he
graduated from the University of Ulster with a BA (Hons) Degree
in Fine and Applied Art. His works are part of both public and
private collections in Northern Ireland.
David's practice takes the form of figurative oil painting with
particular focus on light, composition and colour. Conceptually
he plays on the notion of taking a private moment and making it
public, where the viewer becomes the voyeur. His latest work
explores the qualities cinematic imagery can bring to a painting.
McDowell is influenced by both historic and contemporary figurative
painting with particular interest in the works of Pierre Bonnard,
Eric Fischl and Damien Loeb.
