About Artist Muiriosa Murphy
  1. Muiriosa Murphy is currently creating a body of work depicting nightclub scenes, which many young people use as a form of comfort and escape. Wrapped up in this subject are complex themes of identity, finding oneself, loosing oneself, excess, deprivation, sadness, ecstasy, expectation... This is all taking place in the background of a pulsing beat and the sweaty bodies of strangers moving as a throbbing mass of oneness and acceptance.
  2. 'Surge' typifies that, strangers all massed together, up close, moving, twisting, touching to the beat of the music. For Muiriosa, that typifies comfort...moving onto a heaving dance floor, arms in the air ready to lose yourself. Those around you want nothing from you, except maybe a smile and to share your space... peacefully!
