Biography

Cathy Twomey graduated from the Crawford College of Art and Design Cork and has gone on to become an established artist whose work focuses mainly on private commissions of highly intimate portraiture. Her recognisable style captures and presents to us the nostalgia of an era when time appeared to be more simple, slow, yet punctuated by deeply memorable events and memories. Cathy's paintings are also historical documents, thoroughly researched which makes the viewing experience complete.

Whether Cathy Twomey is working in oil, acrylic or charcoal her passion for her subject matter along with the skill of execution reveals an understanding of the relationships that are all part of the human experience. A quite moment of reflection, a smile, a lively dancing session, a chance meeting, all these often unnoticed punctuations in our daily lives, become moments rich with meaning, revealing the true character of the subject. Add to this the Still-life and Landscape work and it shows us the sensitivity of observation with which Cathy can beguile us.
