About Artist George H Smyth
  1. George H. Smyth was born in Ardglass, Co. Down in 1968. His father was a talented water-colourist and encouraged him to draw and paint for an early age. Before attending the University of Ulster and obtaining a B.A honours degree in Fine Art he had come to the public's attention when he produced the uncompromising album covers for Irish rock band Therapy in the early 1990's.
  2. Encouraged by his friend and mentor the Scottish painter and War Artist Peter Howson he settled down to work. For 12 years everything he painted was bought by "Fine Irish Art". Working exclusively in oils he soon became one of Ireland's most sought-after artists.
  3. In 2008 he and the company parted ways and in March of 2009 he launched his own web-site georgehsmyth.com archiving his work from 1990. The site includes his student work, the artwork for Therapy? and some examples of his father's paintings. George is currently in negotiations with dealers in Los Angeles. He lives at Tyrella Beach Co.Down.
