About Artist Hugh G Rice
  1. Hugh G. Rice was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He qualified in 1968 from St. Joseph's College of Education, Belfast, with an Art Teacher's Certificate (Distinction), and a Certificate in Education (First). His early career was spent teaching Art and Design at secondary and tertiary levels in Belfast before he left to teach in Zambia, Central Africa in 1974.
  2. Hugh extended his knowledge of painting techniques and obtained his B.A. and M.A. (Ed.) with the Open University, U.K. In 1991, Hugh's freestanding sculpture "Reflections" was chosen by the Sculptors' Society of Ireland to be displayed on Dame Street in Dublin as part of that city's celebrations as a European City of Culture.
  3. Hugh spends the winter painting Irish landscapes in the town of Ballycastle. His summers are spent in the middle of Canada capturing the vast open landscape of the prairie.
  4. His work can be found in Canada, England, Israel, The Netherlands, Zambia, Australia and his native Ireland.
