About Artist John Walsh
  1. John Walsh was born in Kilkenny in 1954 and has been a full-time professional artist since 1977. He works in many mediums from Oil to Watercolour and Pen and Ink. The execution of fine detail is a very important aspect to his work where texture light and colour form a fine balance to each other.
  2. Having graduated from the College of Art in 1976 John embarked on a long journey of discovery as an artist and found himself entering the the world of pen and ink capturing the beautiful buildinns of Kilkenny City- a medieval city,in a series of highly detailed drawing's which sold worldwide. This was followed by a very successful Dublin series.
  3. John exhibits annually in Kilkenny Arts Week and has also had one man shows in Brussels,Antwerp and Long Island in New York.
  4. In 2009 John was made a member of the Watercolour Society of Ireland and now works mainly in this medium but recently has returned to oil and happily moves between the two.
  5. John has been taken commissions throughout his career and his work hangs in many public and private collections in Ireland,mainland Europe,America,Canada,Australia and Japan.
  6. John's work is mainly in the area of landscape and figurative work and has a passion for recreating the many architectural gems that adorn this country.Since moving to the countryside a few years ago John has developed another passion for animal portraits and enjoy's working in this field as well.
