Michael Delohery was born in 1974. He grew up in Clare but has been
living and working in Limerick, for the past 12 years. Moving to
Limerick city to attend Art College, would inevitably bring into
contrast a new life style from the country manner he was used to.
His observations of human emotions, and the social and psychological
problems that each of us can experience from day to day became the
focus for his paintings. His college work was very graphic in nature
and technique.
Before he begins painting Michael writes some text, with glue, which
is to act as a reactionary element, to the image he will then overlay.
This rippled relief on the surface of the canvas could act as a
detrimental effect on the painted image, but for the high degree of
painting skill that he puts into each piece. The writing is also a
clever ploy to draw the viewer closer to his paintings as they try
and decipher the clues written under the image, then up close the
viewer is compelled to see the large variety of mark-making abilities
that Michael possesses.
Michael joined Contact Studios in 2007 and intends to continue to
work there for the foreseeable future.
