About Artist Tony Oakey
  1. Tony Oakey was born in 1959 and lives in Piltown, Co. Kilkenny. He started painting in 1990 and had his first sell-out show in Kilkenny Arts Festival 1995. Such was the demand for his work that in 2000 he decided to give up his job to concentrate fully on his art. In 2003 he was awarded a two week residency at Cill Rialaig. Working mostly in oils and acrylics he continues to develop his work into a recognisable style of his own.
  2. For Tony, painting is a mental voyage, a journey full of colour and surprise. He treats each day as a new canvas with new thoughts and dreams to influence him. His surroundings, his music and his mood will all sub-consciously contribute to the painting in progress. This way of painting opens his mind into a world of discovery, a less serious place where there are no boundaries between imagination and reality.
  3. Tony's work can be seen throughout the year at his San-Pitz Studio in Piltown, Co. Kilkenny.
