      About Whitelaw Wilson

Whitelaw Wilson studied fine art at The Glasgow School of Art. In 1995, after having worked in Further Education for a number of years teaching drawing and painting, he decided to devote his time to working professionally as an artist.

He is a regular visitor to the west of Ireland, the Outer Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland Islands, and draws inspiration from the breathtaking coastal scenery of these regions, the moods of weather and constantly changing light effects. Many of his paintings are in private collections throughout the UK, USA and Ireland.

"There is a wildness and beauty to these locations that draws me back each year to paint. Whether it is a calm or stormy day, or a spectacular sunrise or sunset that inspires me, I try to articulate a sense of the beauty of nature through land, sea and sky."
