Lorraine paints various subjects but has become synonymous with her resplendent, luscious oil paintings of fruit - paying homage to botanical art. She focuses on the butteriness that oil gives to colour and the light that permeates. She paints fruit still on the tree or bush – still alive as well as still life and makes magnified studies of fruit in section.
Lorraine is inspired by the vibrant colours, forms & surfaces in the fruits of the earth and the landscape it is grown in. She works to achieve a balance between contemporary and traditional style of painting, building up layers whilst holding a bold colour palate to bring a striking finish to each piece. Originally from Dublin, Lorraine is now based in Carlow. She teaches art for adults and children under the name Red Apple Arts and is on the list of community educators.
She exhibits throughout the year at various festivals and the RDS. Her work can be seen at the Denis Collins Gallery, and the Rosslare Gallery, Wexford, on her website or by arrangement at her home studio.
