After leaving school I studied Visual Communications and worked for over twenty years in the design and print industry. I returned to education in Sept 2011 and completed a BA in Art and Design Education in the National College of Art and Design, Dublin. It was here that my work as a visual artist started to evolve.
My paintings are created by melting beeswax and using it as a pigment medium. I then interweave oil paint which results in a rich, vibrant, textural work of art which can be endlessly manipulated with an assortment of tools. My work is not attempting to re-create reality but interpret an expression of the inner place inspired from the open spaces in the natural world. I enjoy exploring an exaggeration of color, forms, and texture while pushing the fluidity of the wax to create layers of underlying texture. Some of my strongest work is created when time just passes by and the painting unfolds itself naturally. When this happens I end up with a truly unique abstract painting that represents a part of me. These energetic abstract paintings are hoped to evoke emotions and awaken the creative mind of the viewer while touching upon a familiar resonance that is inspired by patterns and color compositions in nature.
