Val McLoughlin, born in Ballina, Co. Mayo studied art in Cork and has lived in both Cork and Kerry and is now once again in Ballina. Works in watercolour, mixed media and oils, mainly landscapes in an loosely painted manner with a strong element of abstraction in the work, he also paints portraits in oils and mixed media. A printer he makes lino and woodcut prints generally hand printed these prints are less abstract than the paintings and have a strong expressionist tendency.
